What Does Self-Management Mean is an excellent way to help your high school students understand the impact their adolescent behaviors and choices have on their health and happiness. Students work in teams to analyze one of 6 adult case studies each of which highlights how adolescent behavior has shaped their adulthood. Students consider what each adult might change if they could rewind time. Introduce self management as an opportunity to pause; becoming aware of and effectively managing one’s thoughts, behaviors and emotions. Finally, students imagine being able to fast forward through time to predict how their current behaviors and choices will impact their future health and happiness.

What Does Self-Management Mean includes:

• Detailed lesson notes with suggestions for facilitating group work, processing and assessing the activity
• Student handouts (editable in Canva & includes link to digital handout in Google Slides)
• A slide show with all 6 case studies and related discussion questions
• Resource Cards with information about how to find help for the health conditions highlighted in each case study (including problem gambling, STDs, social anxiety, depression, domestic/dating violence, opioid abuse and vaping). Each card has a scannable QR code linking you to a website where you can find a local service provider.
