Description
This Middle School Substance Abuse Prevention Program for Middle School focuses begins by having students analyze the many influences on their decisions about drugs & alcohol. They learn basic drug facts and explore social norms, creating a research-based project that can help decrease drug use among teens. They learn about risk & protective factors and analyze case studies to discover the impact of peers, culture, family and community influences as well as others.
Next, students discover the importance of each of their decisions by discussing a real-life story of teens and tragedy. They relate what they’ve learned to their own life goals and explore a decision-making model all while learning functional knowledge about social hosting laws, safety, and suicide.
Finally, students debate who is ultimately responsible for their decisions. They discuss the role of peers, law enforcement, school and families in their decisions and continue the discussion at home with the
#StaySafePromise family assignment.
