Description

Examples of SMART Goals is a full unit of study that focuses on National Health Education Standards 1, 2 and 6.

The first 3 lessons explore the concepts of healthy eating, physical activity, sleep and screen time. Students learn the basics, assess their current behaviors and analyze influences. Each lesson includes multiple opportunities for movement, student handouts, detailed lesson notes and teaching materials.

Next, students complete two additional lessons to learn about SMART goals and apply what they’ve learned to 4 different case studies; allowing the teacher to check for understanding and the student to practice setting SMART goals.

Finally, students take on a personal health goal of their own. They set a series of staged targets, identify possible barriers, enlist the support of trusted adults, design detailed plans and monitor and reflect on progress. Students have access to four sample goals and plans as well as related infographics.

This unit includes 6 lessons. Depending on pacing, this unit will take 10-15 hours of instructional time.
